Orthodontic Treatment

Crooked teeth do not fit correctly with the normal teeth and hence it makes cleaning difficult.  They can also make you look less attractive.

Crooked teeth cause the following problems:

  • Tooth decay and periodontal disease and you also face the risk of tooth loss.
  • Extra stress on the chewing muscles that can lead to TMJ syndrome and neck, shoulder, back pain and headache.

You can go in for orthodontic treatment which will help you have a more pleasing appearance, healthier mouth and long tasting teeth. An orthodontist is a specialist in this field. Habbu Dental World has a team of best orthodontists in Pune who have been enabling patients to have healthy teeth. They decide the orthodontic treatment based on the diagnostic tools which include a full medical and dental health history, a clinical exam, plaster models of your teeth, and special X-rays and photograph. The orthodontist or dentist develops a treatment plan that’s right for you accordingly.

How do I Know if I Need Orthodontics?

If you have any of the following, you may require orthodontic treatment:

  • Overbite: This is also called “buck teeth”wherein the upper front teeth lie too far forward over the lower teeth.
  • Underbite— In this case the lower teeth are too far forward or the upper teeth too far back
  • Crossbite—When biting together normally, the upper teeth do not come down slightly in front of the lower teeth.
  • Open bite— When the biting surfaces of the front and/or side teeth and the back teeth bite together
  • Misplaced midline— when the center of your upper front teeth and the center of your lower front teeth does not line up.
  • Spacing— Formation of gaps, or spaces, between the teeth as a result of missing teeth.
  • Crowding— when there are too many teeth for the dental ridge to accommodate

How does Orthodontic Treatment Work?

The orthodontist uses fixed and removable appliances to help move teeth, retrain muscles thereby improving the growth of the jaws. The appliances work by placing gentle pressure on the jaws and teeth.

Depending upon the severity of your problem, your dentist or orthodontist may suggest one or a combination of the following orthodontic treatments to correct your bite:

  • Braces: Brackets or bands is attached to each tooth with glue and arch wires are fitted into all the brackets which are held in place with rubber or wire ties.
  • Headgear: This treatment uses an appliance that fits around the head or neck which guides the direction of tooth movement and jaw growth in someone who is still growing.
  • Removable appliances: Removable appliances can be worn before or after braces are applied to treat specific problems.
  • Retainers: A retainer can be used to keep your teeth in the right place after the braces are removed. They may need to be worn temporarily or permanently.
  • Oral surgery: If a jaw surgery is required, the orthodontist might refer you to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
