Veneers & Laminates

  • Most of us would love to have clean and beautiful teeth. In recent years there are many cosmetic dental treatments to improve the appearance of the teeth. One such treatment is Veneers and Laminates. Dental veneers and Laminates are an important tool in cosmetic dentistry.  Veneers are wafer thin, customized shells of tooth-colored materials that are designed to cover the front surface of the tooth either to improve the aesthetic appearance of a tooth or protect its surface from any damage. They are bonded to the front of the teeth thereby changing their shape, length, size or color.
  • The dental veneers are made from resin composite materials or porcelain. A resin composite veneer may be directly placed i.e., built-up in the mouth or indirectly fabricated by a dental technician. It is later bonded to the tooth by using resin cement. In contrast, a porcelain veneer can only be indirectly fabricated. Porcelain veneers resist stains better, and they also have the light reflecting properties similar that of natural teeth. On the other hand resin veneers are thinner and require removal of less of the tooth surface before placing them over the damaged tooth. The dentist will help you to choose the best veneer material accordingly.
  • A cosmetic dentist may use a veneer to restore a single tooth that may have been fractured or discolored, or multiple teeth to create a great makeover. Multiple veneers are used to close spaces, treat worn away the edges of the teeth , lengthen teeth that have been shortened due to wear, fill up the black triangles  caused by gum recession that are formed between teeth and proper positioning of crooked teeth.. The veneers also help to provide a uniform color, shape, and symmetry, and make the teeth appear straight and perfect. Thin porcelain veneers are recommended by dentists to strengthen worn teeth. They are also applied to yellow teeth that won’t whiten. Thin veneers are considered to be an effective option for aging patients with worn dentition.
  • Laminate veneers are porcelain veneers which are used to cover damaged and stained teeth. The treatment is less painful and requires barely two visits. The laminates are cemented onto the surface of the damaged teeth to give them a completely smooth surface and also a natural shine. These thin laminate veneers are significantly stronger and can last for approximately 10 to 15 years. The veneers and laminates make the teeth look so real that it may be extremely difficult for a lay person to make out that they are artificial.
